When I first came to this breed, I was quite shocked. Breeders were actually wantinmg to charge hundreds more for full registration and breeding rights to the dog I was purchasing! :)
Now I know I was looking at it wrong. A common practice among Dachshund breeders I saw as charging me hundreds more for the right of full registration, and the right to register my pups with AKC. Actually, what they are doing is quite the opposite, they just word it in a way that does not clearly define what they are doing. Say the pricing on a litter is stated as follows: $1000.00 for Pet with Limited Registration. Available with Full Registration and Breeding Rights for $1500.00. How it should really be worded, is: $1500.00. Reduced Pet Price is available on this puppy with a limited registration.
That way people would understand the puppies worth is $1500 with everything that normally comes with a puppy, health gaurentees, registration, etc.
Instead of getting angry, I think people would then be ok with the price, and realize that the breeder was offering a consideration to those that wanted a loving companion only.
