X-Pens, inexpensive, easy and quick

X-PEN ALTERNATIVE

Lately more and more people have been asking me about my x-pen/whelping pen alternative. It's very inexpensive, quick, convenient and comes in a variety of sizes. I got the idea from another breeder on one of my Dachshund forums.

Home Depot, Menards or any of the home improvement stores have these "panels" readily available for about $5.59 give or take a little. What I use is the epoxy or plastic coated wire linen shelves. They come in lengths of 4' to 6'. Either 12' or 18' wide. I think I saw a 24" once, that would be handy for those with breeds larger than Dachshunds..... cockers, beagles and such.

What I do is take the sections, if I need them cut down I do that, to 3', 2' or whatever. I secure the corners with plastic zip ties, these can either permenant or removable, doesn't matter. They are cheap if you have to cut them off.

Also what I do with the panels is put them across my doorways. It's much easier to step over these than baby gates. Baby gates cost about $40, these cost about $3-6. Big difference.
